  • Austrian composer of the late Classical era and one of the early Romantic era
  • Died at the age of 31
  • Wrote 600 Leider, 9 symphonies, liturgical music, operas, a large body of chamber, and solo piano music
  • Most famous pieces include the "Unfinished" and "Great C Major" symphonies, six Masses, numerous chamber and piano pieces, and a large number of brilliant songs including "Gretchen am Spinnrade," "Erklong" and the song cycles "Die schone Mullerin" and "Die Winterreise."
  • Schubert's works received the recognition they deserved after his death
